Kara Hooser awarded APSA Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grant

Kara Hooser Profile

OSU Political Science Ph.D. student Kara Hooser has recently been awarded an APSA Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grant of $11,020. The Grant will fund fieldwork related to Hooser's dissertation, exploring war-linked masculinities, everyday violence, and peacebuilding in post-conflict spaces. Using interviews and focus groups, Hooser's project makes the case that efforts to understand and build positive peace must examine gender’s centrality to human socialization, interpersonal relationships, and possibilities for living in relation with one another.

The Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants "provide support for US-based graduate students to enhance and improve the conduct of their doctoral dissertation research in political science." In particular, the Grants support dissertation research focused on "advancing knowledge and understanding of citizenship, government, and politics." (More information about the Grants can be found on the APSA Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants page).
