Transfer Students

Your best source of general transfer information is our Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. The Ohio State University Department of Political Science is ranked among the finest in the United States. Our faculty members teach and write about Ohio politics, presidential elections, the judicial system, political parties, voting behavior, public policy, and American lawmaking. They study the politics of the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, Eastern and Western Europe, and the former Soviet Union. Among us are experts on world trade, war, revolution, and the United Nations, among many other areas and topics.

Apart from the requirements for the major, you should know about our vigorous internship program, our undergraduate Political Science Association, and the variety of events we host that are of interest to students of politics at all levels of experience. We also sponsor an Honors Program, including a chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honorary.

Although you are probably fairly clear about your reasons for choosing political science as a major, you may find comfort in knowing that it is very marketable. You’ll acquire skills in research and writing, data analysis, and critical thinking that are vital to any job. You’ll be taking the classic pre-law major, if your interests tend that direction. And you’ll graduate with qualifications that can lead you to careers in state, local and federal government, business, law, journalism, finance, lobbying, and education.

If you have further questions about our political science program, call the Department Office at 614 292-2880 or contact Charles Smith, Academic Coordinator.
