Erin Lin, Associate Professor of Political Science, has been awarded the 2025 Giovanni Sartori Book Award from the American Political Science Association (APSA) for her book, When the Bombs Stopped: The Legacy of War in Rural Cambodia. The book examines how undetonated bombs from the Vietnam War still impact the lives of Cambodian farmers and their land.
The Giovanni Sartori Book Award honors works that advance qualitative methods and concept formation. It is intended to recognize authors for their methodological innovations and exemplary applications of qualitative research.
Erin Lin's research explores the long-term impacts of war, economic development, agriculture, and genocide. She also has a deep interest in the relationship between soil conditions and unexploded bombs, which she currently investigates in Cambodia. Her work incorporates ethnographic and econometric techniques, combining immersive fieldwork with large-N, archival datasets.
Erin Lin is the first Ohio State faculty member to receive the Giovanni Sartori Book Award.
Congratulations, Professor Lin!
