The Ph.D. Program - go to graduate handbook

Graduate courses at Ohio State meet for ten weeks and students take three courses each quarter. Course enrollments average about 10 to 12 students and virtually all courses are conducted in a seminar format where open discussion and interaction are encouraged.

Students have considerable discretion in designing a program of study. However, to ensure that all students share a common understanding of major approaches to contemporary political science, and that they achieve a reasonable level of competence in political methodology, all Ph.D. students must complete the following core program:

  • Three courses in research design and methods
  • Three courses in two areas in political science
