Welcome to my website. I'm Todd Makse, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Political Science at The Ohio State University. Before coming to Columbus, I previously lived in Houston, Texas, where I received my B.A. in political science, linguistics and Spanish from Rice University (2001), and subsequently worked as a research assistant at the Jesse Jones Graduate School of Management.
My primary research and teaching interests in American politics are in the areas of legislative elections, state politics, political parties, and voting behavior. My dissertation research focuses on state legislative redistricting and party finance strategy in contesting state legislative elections.
I am also a lead investigator for the 2008 Franklin County Neighborhoods and Elections Study. For more details on the FCNES, including a full description of the project and working papers, please click here.
