Welcome to my website. My name is Yoon-Ah Oh and I am a Ph.D. candidate in the department of political science at Ohio State University. I study international migration and its implications for various political and economic outcomes in developing countries. My research focuses on the relationship between human mobility, democracy, development and globalization at cross-national and sub-national levels. I also have research interests in comparative immigration policies and public opinion towards immigration in receiving countries. This substantive focus accompanies a methodological interest in how to make a better use of quantitative and qualitative approaches in political science. I am currently preparing my doctoral dissertation on how international migration affects municipal-level political development in sending countries with special focus on the Philippines.
For area interests, I consider myself an Asianist although my work examines issues relevant to developing countries in general. I lived and studied in many parts of Asia, including Burma/Myanmar, where I conducted fieldwork for MA thesis. From June through December 2009, I will be in the Philippines for the second round of my doctoral field research.
