Danielle Langfield
WelcomeI am a Ph.D. candidate in Comparative Politics, with an expected defense in March 2010.
My research and teaching interests include democratization and democratic consolidation, political parties and party systems, institutions, political and economic development, and the developing world especially sub-Saharan Africa. My dissertation asks what determines the evolutionary path taken be dominant party systems, that is, democratic systems in which one political party wins national power repeatedly and continuously. Along with South Africa, prominent cases of such systems include (mostly but not all in the past) Botswana, India, Italy, Japan, and Sweden. I also spend a lot of time thinking about hegemonic party regimes such as Mexico under the PRI.
