Dissertation Synopsis: During election cycles, pollsters use a variety of
techniques to estimate which political parties are gaining or losing ground in
the eyes of the electorate. Frequently however, survey research firms will base
their estimates upon attitudinal or behavioral factors that are endogenously
related to the reports of partisan support. My research has two fundamental
goals: First, examining the effectiveness of a variety of attitudinal and
behavioral weighting schemes to assess and predict voter behavior. Second, the
research examines the link between media poll reports and changes to people’s
attitudes and self reports of expected behavior. Ultimately this combined
approach weighs in on both the best practices of survey research and the
relationship that responsible poll reporting plays in informing the electorate.

Volunteer and Other Experiences:
During my College and University education and at other times, I have had the opportunity
to work in both volunteer and paid positions. Foremost among those include as a
Graphics Designer at Bombardier Aerospace, doing Social Research for McGill
University, Brock University and the City of St. Catherine’s, Ontario. Also
involved in other endeavors such as student government, sitting as an executive
on a student faculty organization, and not the least note worthy (as it paid the
bills through my undergraduate education) working in the hospitality industry as
a Waiter, Bartender, and Maitre d’. More recently, I assisted in the
coordination, organization and execution of a fall 2002 conference on the future
of Canadian public policy “The Banff Forum 2002” which brought together young
and energetic leaders across a variety of disciplines including business,
academia, government and not-for-profit sectors. In addition I was involved in a
collaborative project sponsored by the Pew Charitable Trust that was executed
during the 2004 US Presidential election. The research involved collecting and
analyzing “527” (non-candidate) media spending data. The resulting book fromf
the project is available from Pew at:
