Specialty in Race, Gender, and Ethnicity

The Specialty in Race, Gender, and Ethnicity and Politics permits a focus on one or more of these three areas. The study of Race, Gender, or Ethnicity may be combined with other subfields in American politics, including Political Participation and Voting Behavior, Public Opinion and Political Psychology, Political Parties and Interest Groups, Judicial Politics, and Legislative Politics.

Classes taught regularly include:

• Gender and American Politics
• Seminar in Race and Ethnicity in American Politics
• Selected Topics in Race and Ethnicity in American Politics: Black Politics
• Black Political Movements and Organizations
• Urban Politics

Readings courses have also been offered on such topics as Gender and Political Behavior, Women and the Judiciary, Latino Politics, and Group Consciousness and Group Identity. There are also relevant courses in departments such as Women’s Studies and African-American and African Studies.
