Fields of Study

Graduate students in Political Science at Ohio State take:

  • major field,
  • a minor field, and
  • a breadth requirement of one course in three of the following fields: American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Politics, and Political Theory.

The 4 main major fields are:

  • American Politics
  • Comparative Politics
  • International Relations
  • Political Theory

A distinguishing feature of the OSU graduate program is having 4 additional lively fields that represent important new directions in political science. They are generally taken as minor fields, though some can be taken as second majors:

  • Political Psychology
  • Political Methodology
  • Formal Theory
  • Political Economy
