Alan Wiseman
Assistant Professor of Political ScienceDirector, SBS Undergraduate Public Policy Minor
Professor Wiseman has research and teaching interests in American
political institutions and positive political economy, focusing on
legislative and electoral politics, regulation, bureaucratic politics,
and Internet economics and public policy. He is the author of The
Internet Economy: Access, Taxes, and Market Structure (Brookings
Institution Press, 2001), and has published research in journals
including the American Political Science Review, the Journal
of Politics,
Legislative Studies Quarterly and the Journal of Theoretical
Politics.
Current projects include examining the impact of executive oversight of
bureaucratic rulemaking on lawmaking in the United States and other
developed democracies, a study of the causes and consequences of
legislative effectiveness in the United States congress, and developing
theoretical models on the politics of investigations and the causes and
consequences of industry self-regulation. He
also helps direct the Colloquium
on Positive Political Economy, and is the director of the new
undergraduate public
policy minor in the College of Social and
Behavioral Sciences.
